Creative Destruction

If you’re completely satisfied then don’t read this.

I heard the term creative destruction last week and loved it. It isn’t a new phrase by any means. Joseph Schumpeter used it in his 1942 book “Capitalism, Socialism and Democracy” to describe new industrial advances destroying the economies they came from. But this phrase doesn’t have to apply solely to economics…

creative destruction = reinvention.

Something that I’m constantly being reminded of is that our own personal growth has a huge impact in our everyday lives. It seems obvious when it’s written out, but we have so many distractions in our lives that we may forget to hit pause. Sometimes we forget about ourselves.

You don’t have to reinvent yourself to make impacts in your every day.  There’s usually something simple that you can do differently to get to where you want to be.

How often do you look back at what made your day great? Maybe you had a shitty day – but there’s always one positive you can find. Bad stuff happens all the time, but we can choose how we respond to it.

Recently I’ve been working on writing down three things every day that I’m grateful for. Sometimes I miss days. Sometimes I don’t want to do it. But every time I do it, it helps me find something positive to look back on.  I started this site in the hopes that something I learn may be helpful to someone else. Maybe this is helpful to you.

Here’s what I’m grateful for today (so far):

  • Waking up early and having time to write this post
  • New opportunities with Open Design
  • Finding time to schedule posts for this new Instagram account

take your time to be what you want to be – not to look how you want to be.
